About Camp Blue Skies:

Camp Blue Skies is a nonprofit organization that offers overnight camps designed for adults with developmental disabilities. We provide a safe and joyful environment focused on personal growth, recreation, and meaningful connections. We partner with ACA-accredited camps in beautiful southeastern locations including Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Position Overview:

The Health Services Manager leads all health center operations, ensuring campers, staff, and volunteers are cared for in a supportive, professional, and safe environment. This role is responsible for medical compliance, staff oversight, camper screening, emergency planning, and medical record management.

Commitment: Part-time, 10–15 hours/week on average (remote, except during camp sessions)

Compensation: $2,400/month with bonus for each camp session

Locations:

  • March: Two 4-night sessions in Georgia

  • May: Weekend camp in South Carolina

  • October: Two 4-night sessions in North Carolina
    Expansion planned in 2026 and beyond

Key Responsibilities:

Camper Screening & Enrollment

  • Conduct and/or oversee phone screenings for all new and returning campers

  • Ensure all medical eligibility criteria are met; follow up with families as needed

  • Assist with camper placement in cabins based on medical and social needs

  • Serve as point of contact for families on camper health needs

Medical Forms & Documentation

  • Ensure all required health forms, immunization records, and physicals are submitted and complete

  • Review forms for accuracy and follow up with families and physicians

  • Create Medication Administration Records (MARs) for each camper

  • Update and maintain camp health documentation and protocols

Medical Staff Recruitment & Oversight

  • Recruit, train, and manage nurses, nursing & pharmacy students, and medical volunteers

  • Coordinate with pharmacy/nursing school faculty to ensure student success and camp readiness

  • Partner with an on-call physician to review and sign protocols and standing orders

Risk Management & Safety

  • Develop and update camp medical policies and emergency protocols

  • Research local hospitals and first responder services

  • Maintain RN licensure and pursue continuing education relevant to camp nursing and developmental disabilities

  • Track weather and participate in contingency planning

Volunteer Orientation & Training

  • Train volunteers on medical procedures, camper-specific care needs, and emergency response

  • Provide “need-to-know” camper summaries for cabin leaders and activity staff

  • Inform volunteers of privacy policies (HIPAA), camper safety, and health expectations

Onsite Health Oversight During Camp

  • Oversee all health center operations and medical staff during camp

  • Ensure safe and timely medication distribution

  • Be on call 24/7 during camp to address any medical or behavioral issues

  • Serve as primary liaison for medical issues with families during and after camp

Additional Duties

  • Participate in occasional events with campers throughout the year

  • Attend in-person training and planning meetings in Charlotte, NC, or surrounding area

  • Assist in reviewing camper family communications and mailing lists as needed

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN), BSN preferred

  • 3+ years of clinical nursing experience

  • BLS Certification (may be completed post-hire)

  • Experience with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities (preferred)

  • Strong critical thinking, judgment, and communication skills

  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Available for all scheduled camp sessions (overnight, on-call role)

  • Comfortable working remotely with occasional in-person meetings
